Lionize is a location based art hunt exclusive to Sydney, Australia. We inhabit vacant real estate as a temporary exhibition space. Collectors either visit the location and scan a QR code or claim artworks remotely online.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

PASSIVE: 1 artwork, 3 ways to purchase, free shipping, Afterpay available (you may receive additional artworks).

ACTIVE: Discover the Lionize system; unlock 90% off, choose how to unlock additional artworks or claim for free.

REACTIVE: Understand the system where timing determines what you receive. Follow @Shadow_play; a ninja themed narrative that communicates the activity around Lionize in real time. Act as the Lone Wolf, The Phantom or join the Hidden Hands. Covet the Light work, claim Prism or collect Dark work to unlock Obscura and more.

In-game narrative example: A new light emerges from darkness, strike first or be left with ghostly echoes.

In the real world, the vacant property that Lionize exhibits in is still available for lease.

This space in Shadowplay however is known as the (ninja) Hideout where Shinobi drops are featured.

When an artwork has been purchased the property owner (Merchant) receives a share of the sale.

If a lease is signed before an artwork is purchased, Shadowplay ends in that location.

Real world, time based actions, external to the art collecting have also been gamified.

Elements that may seem disruptive to the exhibition add dynamics of urgency and playful tension for Ninjas to act. For example; tenant inspections and contract negotiation in reality can signify time is running out for the exhibited art. Maintenance to the property or signed leases can cause Lionize to relocate disrupting the flow of Shadowplay. View the current location of the Hideout at Echolocation.

In-game narrative example: The key has turned. A Ronin has scheduled an inspection. Unseen eyes will walk the hideout, it's future uncertain.

Lionize has a ninja themed narrative called Shadowplay overlaying the art collecting.

Collectors can choose to engage in this narrative or simply purchase the artwork casually.

Insiders will understand the attributes of each Ninja and how they can secure artworks strategically.

Everyone in Lionize is anonymous, your actions determines your ninja architype in Shadowplay.

For example: A remote collector with an intention to purchase online is seen in the game world as a "Phantom" within the game narrative. The same way property owners, agents and potential tenants continue their day in reality. In the game narrative they have avatars too (see below).

The three ninja archetypes are:

  • The Lone wolf: A collector who takes direct action to purchase an artwork instantly at its location.

  • The Phantom: A collector who claims an artwork by purchasing remotely online.

  • The Hidden Hands: A group who work together to gain access to artworks by pledging.

Each architype uses speed, patience and tactics to secure the artwork before the others do, but each action also has consequences.

NPC's (Non player-characters) external to the game world also have architypes:

  • The Merchant: The property owner.

  • The Keyblade: The property agent responsible for inspections and executing contracts.

  • The Ronin: A potential tenant of the vacant property.

These different dynamics generate a lighthearted interplay of pressure, tension and urgency.

The scarcity value of the artwork increases because of its ephemeral nature, they must act...before others do. For more in depth descriptions of each architype visit Ninjaverse.

In-game narrative example: A Ronin is in negotiations. Once the ink is dry, the Light work is lost.

Whispers tell of a Phantom stirring. Will the Hidden Hands assemble in time or will a Lone Wolf strike first?

Obscura can only be unlocked by collecting Dark work over several rounds of Shadowplay.

Some of the types of artworks are listed below, for in-depth tactics of how to secure the art visit Shadowplay.

Obscura is formless, its contents a mystery until secured.

A test of patience, commitment and strategic positioning for dedicated insiders.

Obscura can only be unlocked by collecting 7 Dark works (or Anomalies) over 7 rounds of Shadowplay.

When Dark works are collected in succession a cryptic message will be revealed.

There are many ways to possess the Dark work and many more to sabotage ownership.

Note: It is not enough to know what the cryptic message is, you must own each word of the cipher.

Penumbra is the veil that surrounds shadow; a time bound original canvas only unlocked with Prism.

This might be the one piece that completes everything. Anomaly is a digital wildcard that stands in for missing Dark works. It can only be used once per Obscura unlock. 6 other Dark works must have been collected before it becomes effective. A redeemer of missed chances...if you act in time.

W H A T  I S  L I O N I Z E ?

The word L I O N I Z E means to "put on a pedestal".

It is recontextualised here to mean "pledge" for Hidden Hands to receive 90% off Light work or Prism.

When you Lionize you are "pledging" 10% of the price of the artwork. The other 90% will be funded by nine other people who are each pledging 10%, once all ten people have pledged, the full price of the artwork is paid for and a presale is unlocked. People work together to pledge individually but collectively purchase the artwork. All 10 people in the Hidden Hands will receive an artwork each if the presale is unlocked.

Lionize is also the name of this concept; an ephemeral art exhibition that moves around the city.

It temporarily inhabits vacant real estate before it is leased with the agility to move from place to place.

Art collecting is gamified with time sensitive, QR code window shopping. A collector can purchase the art when they discover it,  "Lionize" to for a deep discount or claim their intention to purchase online.

If the exhibited artwork is not purchased within a limited time it may be subjected to creative seppuku; cut with an X from the shadow artist Shinobi X. Visit Purchase for more info.

Shadowplay is an (optional) narrative about the actions and events surrounding Lionize and the property.

This is mostly a live news feed on Instagram @shadowplay_live. Some of the terminology includes:

  • Striking first: The Lone Wolf acts individually to purchase artworks at the Hideout (location).

  • Claim: The Phantom individually claims their intention to purchase online (remotely).

  • Lionize: Individually pledging on location to collectively purchase as a Hidden Hand.

  • Hideout sealed: A Ronin (property tenant) has signed a lease causing Shinobi X to relocate.

  • Sand clock: Decisive actions or events can trigger a 24hr countdown such as: a Phantom's claim, exhibited Prism artwork, Hideout sealed (property relocation) or Creative Seppuku (artwork cutting).

  • For more in-depth information visit Shadowplay.

In-game narrative example: Murmurs in the streets, X marks the spot.

A Shinobi drop has landed and a new Light work waits in silence. Shadowplay begins...

Seppuku is the honorable method of taking one's own life.

Shinobi however is risking "creative seppuku" by putting their art on the chopping block.

This is ultimately an assertion to reciprocate the artists invested energy.

Inaction has consequences for those who connected with the art but let time slipped through their fingers.

If an exhibited Light work (or Prism) is not preserved before 3 Hideout relocations, it will be cut with an X.

Sacrificed as a symbol of loss and the ephemeral nature of life.
